Introduction

As a nurse working in a busy emergency department, I am constantly acquiring, processing, generating, disseminating knowledge, and receiving feedback. One situation that stands out is when I had to care for a patient who had anaphylaxis due to an allergic reaction to peanuts. Applying the Foundation of Knowledge Model, this paper will describe how I acquired, processed, generated, and disseminated knowledge, used feedback, and the role of nursing informatics in the situation.

Acquisition of Knowledge

My knowledge acquisition started during my nursing education, where I learned the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis and the appropriate interventions. Through ongoing education, I have been able to update my knowledge on the latest evidence-based practices and guidelines for managing anaphylaxis.

Processing of Knowledge

Nursing informatics played a crucial role in this situation, as it helped to provide real-time monitoring of the patient’s vital signs using electronic health records, and ensured accurate and timely administration of medications using smart infusion pumps.
